Welcome, and thank you for your purchase!
We thought we would give a few pointers on how to prepare your smoker for first time use.
We know that there are a million different methods to season a new smoker for use and we won’t tell
you that our way is the best way, but we will say that this has worked for us for many years!
First step is to wipe down any excess dirt or debris. Next we oil our smokers down with cooking oil (some serious
grillers go all out with extra virgin olive oil and such) but Pam or Crisco will do. Also, when we say oil it down, we mean ALL OVER.
Oil the inside and outside of the smoker including the cooking grates, under-belly, firebox, etc.
Then we light a small fire (not too hot or you will blister the paint). We recommend around 200 degrees.
As the fire burns, close the lids and watch the oil dry; This means that the oil is being absorbed into the metal. As the oil dries, re-apply
another coat. Repeat this step several times until the entire smoker has a shiny luster and the oil stops soaking
into the metal. Your smoker is now ready for use!
